Despite the winner now facing Novak Djokovic, the ATP didn't publicise the result of Frances Tiafoe and Roman Safiullin and for good reason too as the American launched into a swear filled tirade at the umpire.
Tiafoe repeatedly shouted f*** you loudly at the umpire and told him he ruined the match after he lost a close three-setter at the Shanghai Masters.
He looked calm as he shook hands with Roman Safiullin but it seems he reserved some anger that he didn't want to share with the Russian at the umpire. He erupted as he approached the chair umpire screaming and swearing at him and refusing to shake his hand in the process.
In what was a tight clash, it went to a tie-break. Tiafoe was slapped with a time violation at 5-5, it wasn't his first meaning he lost his first serve at a crucial juncture. "Time violation, loss of serve. Mr Tiafoe," umpire Jimmy Pinoargote announced.
The American started to get annoyed and protested. "No. No, no, no. I tossed the ball up. I tossed the ball up. I tossed the ball. I was back behind and I tossed the ball. I tossed the ball and I was ready to serve." But the chair umpire wouldn't buy it.
I’m not buying this. It’s a second serve now," he replied.
Tiafoe continued: "I tossed the ball I was ready to serve. Dude that’s the rule. The ball goes up, how am I not ready to serve?" The umpire continued to announce that it was a "second serve" as the American ranted. He went on to lose and made the umpire known that he was the reason why.
"F*** you man. F*** you. Seriously man. You f***ed me the f***ing match," Tiafoe shouted.
"Three f***ing hours and you’re going to do that. Why? You f***ed the match up. Great f***ing job. F***."
