21-year-old Carlos Alcaraz and defending Gentlemen's #Wimbledon champion is heading to his fourth major final appearance 🔥
Carlos Alcaraz will play again in the Wimbledon final. It is the first time in his career that the Spaniard will play a title match in the same Grand Slam for the second time. But on a potentially golden day for Spain with the Euro 2024 final, he hilariously jibed the English fans.
He defeated Daniil Medvedev again in the semis, as he did last year, this time by the scoreline of 6-7(1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 and 6-4.
The winner of the other semi-final between Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti awaits him in the final. Against the Serb it would be exactly the same match as last year, as well as this one against Medvedev. After the match, the Spaniard attended the classic on-court interview, answering questions with the match just concluded.
"It is going to be a really good day for Spanish people as well with the Euro cup..." Alcaraz said before he paused for a chorus of boos. "I didn't say Spain is going to win," he continued. "I am just saying that it is going to be a really fun day!"
"Different conditions, but happy with my performance today," he said. "He was dominating the match and playing great tennis with his serves. It was difficult for me and he tried to pull out all the shots. It was helpful to be up 2-1, and after that, I could enjoy the match. In general, I think I played a good match.
"I tried to play long rallies and tried to play to the net as much as I can. I tried to not play his game. There were a few points that were really long rallies, but I tried to play my own game. It was difficult to break the wall."
"I feel like I am not new any more," he said. "I know how I feel before the final, I have been in this position before - I will try to do the things that I didn't do last year and be better. I will also try the things that went well."
