Ben Shelton defeated doubles partner
Alexander Bublik 7-6, 6-2 in the first round of the
Canadian Open (Omnium Banque Nationale) in hilarious fashion on Wednesday.
The 11th seeded American hit a backhand drop shot while holding three match points in the second set as he looked for a showman flourish to his win. But Bublik darted towards the net and in a last minute need to try and seal the point threw his racquet towards the net making perfect contact.
However it did not count as Bublik's racquet left his hand landing on Shelton's side leaving the 21-year-old flabbergasted. They shared a warm embrace at the net as the exchange concluded as they didn't need to walk towards the net to shake hands.
Doubles partners and friends, they left it all on the court literally as Bublik nearly pulled off the unthinkable. Watch the insanity below.
