Former American tennis player Mary Carillo made a hilarious
error while commentating in the
US Open 2023.
The fourth and final Grand Slam of the year is moving
towards the business end as the remaining players are battling it out to secure
the ultimate prize.
During the quarterfinal in the women’s singles category between
America’s Coco Gauff and Latvia’s Jeļena Ostapenko on Tuesday, Carillo made a
hilarious error while commentating.
The 66-year-old stated that the current men’s world number
two Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic will face Taylor Swift instead of America’s Taylor
Fritz in the last-eight clash of the mega-event.
The 36-year-old went on to register a thumping win in
straight sets as he looked simply unplayable on the day with a score of 6-1, 6-4,
6-4 to book his spot in the last four.
That win helped Djokovic secure his place in the 47th
semifinal of a Grand Slam, equaling the record of the former world number one
Switzerland’s Roger Federer.
He is now set to face American young tennis sensation Ben
Shelton who will be playing in his first-ever Grand Slam semifinal.
The 20-year-old defeated fellow countryman Frances Tiafoe in
the last-eight encounter with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2.
