Patrick Mouratoglou has said that he believes Novak Djokovic "can go over 40", and has marveled at the tennis star's longevity.
The World No. 1 has had yet another dominant season this year. He won three out of four Grand Slams, defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud for the Australian Open and Roland Garros titles respectively, before ousting Daniil Medvedev at the US Open to equal Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam titles.
As a result, the 36-year-old has shown that his age is not holding him back from getting the better of the younger generations in the sport. In particular, he was able to take revenge against his closest rival Carlos Alcaraz by defeating the World No. 2 at the Cincinnati Open in August, after the 20-year-old had previously won their clash in the final of Wimbledon.
In a recent Instagram video, the well-known coach Mouratoglou (who is an ex-coach of Serena Williams) praised the Serbian player.
"I haven't seen ever a player of 36 years old that is in that shape. The fact that he's incredibly serious and focused made him become the best athlete because I think he's the best athlete," he said.
The 53-year-old went on to marvel at Djokovic's motivation and discipline and how it has helped him to achieve consistently successful results over such a long period of time.
"I still think that he can go over 40. I'm not saying he's gonna do it because it's all also about motivation. Of course, he can get injured. Anyone can get injured. And I think his body is extremely young for his age. Extremely young. I mean, it's quite obvious. You see him move on the court.
"His court coverage, and his ability to recover, are the consequence of all his years of discipline, working every day with the best professionals and looking always for new techniques to improve," he continued.
