American veteran tennis star
Steve Johnson has bid an emotional
farewell from the sport after losing in the qualifiers of the
Indian Wells.
The ATP 1000 event is set to begin officially from Wednesday
where players from all over the world will showcase their talent at the highest
level and battle to secure the ultimate prize.
Johnson, who was taking part in the qualifiers, lost to Emilio
Nava with a score of 6-7, 7-6, 6-4. That result proved to be his final outing
as he bid an emotional farewell that can be seen in a video posted on the
social media platform X — previously known as Twitter.
The California-born finished his career after winning four ATP
titles. His first ATP title came in 2016 where he defeated Pablo Cuevas in
the final in straight sets with a score of 7–6(7–5),
7–5.
In 2017, he ended up winning his second title after beating
Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci with a score of 6–4, 4–6, 7–6. In 2018, Johnson won
two ATP titles. In April, he defeated America’s Tennys Sandgren in the final with
a score of 7–6, 2–6, 6–4
In July later that year,
Johnson defeated India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan in the final with a score of 7–5,
3–6, 6–2 to secure his fourth ATP title.
