Canadian
Vasek Pospisil let his frustrations get the better of him on Thursday, as he destroyed his racket in his first round match at the BNP Paribas Open
Indian Wells.
The World No.68 was facing American wildcard JJ Wolf, and found himself a break down in the final set of their first round encounter. Down 30-40 on his opponent's serve, Pospisil had an opportunity to put away an easy forehand but ended up missing the shot. This led to him completely destroying his racket in anger, before receiving code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct from the umpire and a point penalty.
Nonetheless, Pospisil was able to break back before breaking a second time to clinch the 6-4 4-6 6-4 victory. He will face compatriot and ninth seed
Denis Shapovalov in the second round, with Shapovalov leading 2-1 in career meetings.
