Switzerland’s
Stan Wawrinka has admitted that the player who
is playing at the highest level is ‘lucky’ to some extent.
The 38-year-old is currently taking part in the
US Open which
is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year.
Wawrinka, while talking to the media, stated that he
considers top athletes playing at the highest level in the sport ‘lucky’ to
some extent.
“The emotion I get from tennis like today playing on Court
17 full of people, playing a top 30 player, & still winning is something
special,” he said. “I know the day that I stop, I won’t find those emotions
anywhere. I’m enjoying what I’m doing.
"I think it’s an amazing life. We are
lucky to be tennis players. It doesn’t matter what your age. If your passionate
about something, you shouldn’t stop.”
Wawrinka has already booked his place in the round of 32 of
the mega-event after beating Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry with a score
of 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2.
The former world number three will be hoping to continue his
winning run and going all the way to claim his fourth Grand Slam.
Wawrinka is set to face off against the current world number six Italy’s Janik Sinner on Saturday.
