Some of the big-name tennis players were amazed after watching
the quality on display in the blockbuster showdown in the final of the
Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open).
It was the rematch of the Wimbledon 2023 final as Serbia’s
legendary tennis star
Novak Djokovic got his much-awaited revenge against the
current world number one Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz with a score of 5-7, 7-6, 7-6.
The match definitely left an impact on some of the big-name
present and past tennis players who expressed their opinion on social media
platform X — previously known as Twitter.
Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka posted a message: “Crazy good
level again. Thank you @DjokerNole @carlosalcaraz.”
Former world number one Chris Evert just congratulated Djokovic
by posting a message “NOVAK !!!.”
Belarus’ tennis star Victoria Azarenka called the match a ‘great
final’ and posted “What a battle @DjokerNole so so strong! @carlosalcaraz is
awesome and so fun to watch! Great final!”
The victory will be a much-needed one for Djokovic who would’ve
been heartbroken after suffering a defeat in a five-set thrilling final in
London last month which halted his march towards equaling Switzerland’s Roger Federer’s
record of eight Wimbledon titles.
On the other hand, Alcaraz will be hoping to get over Sunday’s result and turn his attention towards the upcoming US Open which is
set to begin in less than 10 days’ time.
The 20-year-old will be defending his title as he won it
last year after beating Norway’s Casper Ruud in the final.
