Daniil Medvedev will return to tennis at the 2021
Laver Cup in Boston and speaking ahead of it he talked about what he was up to since the US Open.
It wasn't that long ago that Daniil Medvedev became the 2021 US Open champion but after a week off, the Russian is set to return to tennis at the 2021 Laver Cup. The life of a tennis player is tough but Medvedev was happy to have a week off and celebrate the biggest victory of his career. He recalled:
“I had a week off. We had a great time celebrating the victory. I’ve been soaking it all in. Now the next tournament is coming and I’m just looking forward to playing some great tennis.”
2021 will be the first time Medvedev plays at the Laver Cup but the Russian has had success in team competitions before. Even though he is not playing for his country he is playing for his continent and he is excited:
“It’s a bit different than playing for your country. Here, we don’t play for the country; we play for the entire continent. I’m excited because it’s my first time. I really
wanted this week to come."
He also touched upon his US Open win explaining that while he achieved his childhood dream he is determined to expand his trophy cabinet further:
“It’s just a goal that I accomplished that not so many players manage to do. And that’s great because I was dreaming about it since I was young. I
dreamed about it even more after my first two finals. I know that nobody can take it away from me. That’s the best feeling. Now I want to play better. I want to get more titles, whether it’s Grand Slams,
Masters or Laver Cup. That’s how I approach it.”
