Madrid Masters tournament director Feliciano Lopez hopes to see Rafael Nadal at next year's edition of the event.
Rafael Nadal is a 5x Madrid Masters champion and the Spanish player always spoke fondly about the city and the event. It's an amazing venue that creates a very good and intimate atmosphere filled with his fans so it's not a surprise Nadal enjoys playing at the Caja Magica so much. Tournament director Feliciano Lopez admitted the event is hoping to see Nadal next year:
"We hope to see Rafael Nadal in the next edition. He is still young." (35 as opposed to the 40 which Lopez celebrated on Monday).
Doubt over his participation is tied due to the persistent foot injury that has plagued him for the majority of 2021. It forced him to abandon his plans of playing at Wimbledon or the US Open and Lopez believes he will recover from it and be able to play:
“He has shown that he can overcome injuries. He will be welcome because he is the most beloved player in the tournament.”
