Italy’s young tennis star Jannik Sinner has offered help to
his fellow countryman and the current world number 124 Matteo Berrettini.
The 27-year-old has recently struggled with fitness concerns
which is why he also ended up missing the Davis Cup as well where Italy went on
to win the title after beating Australia in the final.
Sinner, who is often regarded as one of the most
highly-rated players currently playing in the men’s circuit and recently won
the Australian Open, was recently quoted in a report where he offered help to Berrettini
and stated that the ATP tour needs players like him to make it more exciting
for the fans.
"I hope Berrettini comes back soon, we need him,” he said.
“Berrettini congratulated me like all the Davis players. We need him on the
tour. He has helped me in the past and if he needs something I will do it too.”
Berrettini, despite struggling with fitness issues
throughout his career, has had an impressive time on the court where he
finished as the runner-up at Wimbledon in 2021 after losing to the former world
number one Serbia’s Novak Djokovic with a score of 6–7(4–7), 6–4, 6–4, 6–3. That’s not it as the Rome-born also played
in the semifinal of the US Open in 2019 and the Australian Open in 2022.
