Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev will never win a Grand Slam title is the viewpoint of former pro, Arnaud Clement. This comes after Jannik Sinner's recent triumph at the Australian Open.
Tsitsipas alongside Zverev, Rublev among others was touted as the next Generation in tennis, but barring ATP Finals triumphs, none have gone on to reach their potential in terms of winning Grand Slam titles and climbing atop the world of tennis. While Sinner has gone from being a player with similar stature to suddenly clicking mainly after he was ironically sick into a bin at the China Open in Beijing and has since become a tennis powerhouse.
Something that Tsitsipas, Rublev and Zverev will also have aspirations to achieve, but according to Clement, they now don't sit in the same league as Sinner.
“There is a top four and it is far above the rest of the world,” the 2001 Australian Open finalist told L’Equipe. But on Sinner, he said: “Before, in complicated matches, his physique could weigh him down. He now he can maintain the distance and the intensity.”
He continued: “I no longer put Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev or Rublev in the same category as him. I still don’t see those guys lifting a Grand Slam trophy.”
But while he is counting out those players, a Grand Slam champion who Andy Roddick also said was the most underrated player ever in Daniil Medvedev is someone who Clement praises and that he is still very much alongside the main names and is ready to pounce.
“We must not forget Medvedev,” the Frenchman added. “We don’t talk about it, but it’s still there. A year ago we only saw the Djokovic-Alcaraz rivalry. Not now. The good thing is that an Alcaraz-Sinner rivalry has also been added. And for a long time.”
