Richard Gasquet has become the latest player to lambast the ball change on the ATP Tour joining a list of players that called it out before such as Medvedev.
The ATP Tour changed balls and a lot of players are experiencing difficulties with them as more and more elbow and wrist problems have started showing up. Medvedev raised the issue with the balls a few times already pointing out players like Tsitsipas experiencing elbow issues recently. Gasquet talked to L'Equipe about it sharing his experience with the balls:
"We have a problem since COVID, all the balls are slower there is no longer any doubt about it. I've been saying it for two years, it's nothing new. As soon as they got that big (mimics a balloon), I said to my trainer, 'What is this shit?' Now people are starting to talk about this everywhere, but I'm sure they are not like before."
He continued:
"So they were light, fast, it was one of my strengths, I was able to control them very well. Now, it doesn't matter the brand and with only a couple of exceptions, its quality is close to being supermarket."
That is pretty harsh criticism from Gasquet but it's becoming quite clear that a lot of players don't like so the Tour will probably have to address it at one point in time.
