As
Taylor Fritz gets ready to play his
US Open final, one familiar face in the box will be
Morgan Riddle, his girlfriend who is also a social media influencer.
Albeit she hasn't gone without criticism. She was previously criticised for saying tennis was unknown in America on the Netflix show Break Point and Fritz backed her all the way. "I think what she did was awesome for our sport. It got a ton of people looking at it," he said.
"I think you get your typical older fan who may be upset about it. I don't understand how anyone can get upset about it. I'm the one that's a professional tennis player, I'm the one that does this for a living. I 100 percent agree with everything in that video."
She also previously opened up about their first date with the American tennis star and how it was done unconventially. The two have been dating for a while
and are renowned as a power couple in tennis. Fritz and Riddle started dating during the time of Covid-19.
The famous TikTok star was recently quoted in a report where she talked about
the first date the couple had where she made him watch a horror movie. Riddle
stated that she has no idea why she made the American tennis star watch a horror
movie on the first day which would have left him ‘traumatise’.
"I made him watch Midsommar with me, the really messed
up horror movie," she said. "Why I chose that as my first
introduction to a guy, I don't really know. I think I traumatised him a little
bit." Riddle will now support her boyfriend in the grand finale of
the fourth and final Grand Slam on Sunday, where he will face world number one
Italy’s Jannik Sinner.
The 26-year-old is booked his spot in the final after
beating fellow countryman Frances Tiafoe in a five-set thriller with a score of
4-6, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. With that performance, he becomes the first American
player to book a spot in the final of the US Open in the last 18 years. The last player to do that was the former world number one Andy Roddick back in 2006, who lost to Switzerland’s Roger Federer.
After such an impressive run of form, Fritz is set to move
into the top-10 in the ATP rankings once the updated rankings are officially
announced on Monday. On the other hand, his opponent Sinner booked his spot in
the final of the US Open for the first time after beating Britain’s young
tennis star Jack Draper in the semifinal in straight sets with a score of 7-5, 7-6,
6-2.
