Serbia’s tennis star
Novak Djokovic
had a fabulous year in 2023 and he will be looking to repeat similar
performances in 2024 as year. The 36-year-old is often termed as the greatest
player in the history of men’s singles category in the Open era, having won as
many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Despite such unprecedented success
on the court, Djokovic might not have an easy route next year and we discuss five
such events where he is likely to find it hard to claim the ultimate prize.
French Open
French Open might prove to be one
such tournament to start with where Djokovic can get a taste of his own medicine.
The reigning top-ranked won the competition in 2023 but with the return of Spain’s
legendary tennis star Rafael Nadal, it might not be the case in 2024.
Italian Open
The 24-time Grand Slam winner might
find it hard to secure the Italian Open. He can expect to see home boy Jannik
Sinner standing in his way who recently defeated him twice in a week.
Olympic Games
The Olympic Games could be another
milestone where Djokovic might falter. The 36-year-old has repeatedly expressed
his wish to win a gold medal for his country in the mega-event before retiring
from the sport. However, he might find it hard to achieve that considering how
tough the competition is and how fiercely all players compete to achieve the milestone.
US Open
US Open might prove to be another
event where Djokovic might struggle to win. The Belgrade-born won the title in
2023 but next year, when he will be a year old and younger players will be
looking to take advantage of that for sure.
ATP Finals
The ATP Finals could be another
event where Djokovic will have a stern test. The current world number one ended
the year on a high after winning the tournament. However, in 2024, the likes of
Alcaraz, Sinner, Holger Rune and Ben Shelton might prove to be tough for the ageing
superstar.
