After
withdrawing from the 2024
Australian Open,
Nick Kyrgios acknowledged that his
return to the ATP Tour will have to wait as he still needs time to feel in
optimal physical condition. The former world No. 13 is likely to be involved as
a commentator in Melbourne.
With only
one match played in 2023, Kyrgios' absence from the Tour will continue, and
there is uncertainty about an imminent comeback. Although Kyrgios hasn't
announced a specific date, he made it clear that his return won't happen soon.
Through his
new OnlyFans account, the former Australian Open doubles champion expressed his
deep disappointment at not being able to compete in the first Grand Slam of the
year, especially considering it is played in his home country. This marks the
second time he will miss participating in the main draw.
“Obviously
heartbreaking. I've had so many amazing memories there and I just want to
really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right and I need
a little more time. I was so close to winning a Grand Slam—I want to make sure
that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back, so please bear
with me,” Kyrgios said.
In 2022,
Nick Kyrgios had a remarkable season, winning the ATP 500 Washington Open and
making a significant run at Wimbledon, reaching his first Grand Slam final but
ultimately falling to Novak Djokovic. Since then, Kyrgios rediscovered his
passion for tennis and his ambition to compete in the most prestigious
tournaments. However, injuries practically prevented him from playing in 2023.
His last
appearance was at the Stuttgart Open, where he suffered a first-round defeat
against Yibing Wu. This was supposed to be part of his preparation to return
for Wimbledon, but that did not materialize. His absence from the Tour has
extended, and he is currently without a ranking.
