Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem has had several chances to win a grand slam in his career but this might be his biggest yet

As the title suggests Thiem will be looking to build upon his majestic run at this year's Australian Open. He was simply sensational against Zverev whom he beat in four sets. It will be his 3rd grand slam final as he reached the French Open final twice before. He lost both times to Rafael Nadal but beating Nadal on clay in Paris is, well, quite difficult.
He will play against Novak Djokovic, the king of Australia himself who has had a very good tournament so far. In the semifinal, he easily dispatched Federer in straight sets. Djokovic played very well but Federer had some health issues that prevented him from playing full strength.
In the post-match interview Novak admitted that he was too distracted in the beginning. He composed himself later on to cruise to an easy victory. The level of play Djokovic showed at this tournament isn't his best but even so, his mental toughness has been exceptional. He doesn't allow himself to be bothered when things don't go his way. He showed that against Federer.
It will be an interesting match where Several things might prove crucial. First of all, there is an experience which is definitely on Novak's side. Second of all, there is the mental toughness part where Djokovic wins easily. And lastly, there will be a fitness question. Dominic Thiem played more matches than Djokovic and spent way more time on the court. He is younger but recovery isn't something that can be rushed. It will certainly play a factor in the match especially if it goes the full distance.
The head to head record is in favour of Djokovic. They played 11 times and Novak won 7 of those. When it comes to hard courts Novak won all but one match, which was their last one a couple of months ago in London. That was a very weak tournament from Djokovic so the victory might be a questionable one.
All in all, it should be a good final. Thiem has shown maturity and that he belongs in the final. Whether he'll be able to overcome his biggest test yet remains to be seen. The match is scheduled at 9:30 CET. We will have a recap ready for you the moment it finishes.
