Tennis fans have been debating the players they would choose to qualify for the remaining spots at the Nitto
ATP Finals in Turin, including
Andrey Rublev,
Stefanos Tsitsipas,
Alexander Zverev, and
Holger Rune.
The season-ending championship of the ATP Tour will take place from November 12-19, with the top eight players of the season battling it out for the prestigious title. Three spots have already been confirmed, with Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Daniil Medvedev having all passed the qualification cut of 5090 points.
Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner sits just 225 points away from qualification after his victory at the ATP 500 China Open in Beijing this week, meaning he looks set to take the fourth spot. This leaves four spots up for grabs over the coming weeks, and fans have been taking to social media to predict which players will get them.
Rest of Top 10 in the conversation as well as De Minaur and Paul
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Relevant Tennis asked fans the following:
"Andrey [Rublev], Stef [Stefanos Tsitsipas], Sascha [Alexander Zverev], Holger [Rune], Taylor [Fritz], Casper [Ruud] – maybe Demon [Alex de Minaur], Tommy [Paul], Frances [Tiafoe], and Karen [Khachanov] – are the contenders. If you could choose those 4, who would you send to Turin?"
Almost every response included World No. 7 Rublev, who is fifth in the race to Turin with 3685 points. The Russian has had a solid season overall and recently reached the quarter-finals at the US Open. However, he suffered an early exit at the China Open, losing to Ugo Humbert in the second round. Therefore, he will be aiming to get some more deep runs at upcoming tournaments in order to ensure qualification.
Tsitsipas and Zverev were also seen as certainties by many fans in the comments. The Greek player is sixth with 3580 points but, like Rublev, he will be wanting to get some better results after a first-round defeat to Nicolas Jarry in Beijing.
Meanwhile, Zverev has been on the rise recently after coming back from serious injury. The German player is seventh in the race with 3415 points after winning the Chengdu Open and making the semi-finals of the China Open.
The rest of the Top 10 in the ATP Ranking were also in the conversation, with many predicting Rune and Taylor Fritz (who are eighth and ninth in the race respectively) would make it through. However, the Dane has been having a difficult time as of late and has just suffered another first-round exit at the Shanghai Masters, which could see him miss out on Turin.
Here are some other reactions from fans:
"Andrey, Sascha, Holger and Demon would be cool."
"Fritz, Rudd, Tiafoe and Rublev. Paul runner up."
"Andrey and Sascha are a must. Karen and Foe seem good for me, deserve it. Tsitsipas and Holger would be my choice as well but given their recent performance, well last few months even - seems like both could use a break and will both have many, many chances in the future."
