The two-time Davis Cup winner Mark Philippoussis’ wife has
stated that her husband’s collaboration with Greece’s
Stefanos Tsitsipas was
due to end after the
US Open.
The current world number seven announced after his untimely
exit from the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year that his association with his coach Philippoussis will come to an end.
He lost to Switzerland’s
Dominic Stephan Stricker in the second round with a score of 7-5, 6-7, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3.
After that announcement, rumours started to circulate on media
and social media that Tsitsipas fired his coach after a poor outing.
However, Philippoussis’ wife posted a statement on social
media where she stated that such news are false as her husband’s contract with Tsitsipas
was due to end at the end of the US Open.
"I never do this but had to clear this one up as it's
absolutely false! Their collaboration was always meant to finish after the US
Open! That was their agreement from the start! Mark was not fired- nor has ever
been fired in the past. We love and respect the Tsitsipas family and only ever
wish them the best," Silvana Philippoussis wrote.
