Alexander Bublik will have a chance to crush the Halle Open curse which has been going on for over a decade but will he do what many others failed to do.
The Halle curse is a rather interesting occurrence which has been going on ever since the 2011 event. Traditionally it was Roger Federer who was winning the event most of the time. He won it 10 times in his career but there were years when he didn't win the event. The odd thing is that the player who wins the event that year, loses in the first round of Wimbledon a few weeks later.
For example, in 2011 it was Kohlschreiber who won the event and then lost in the first round of Wimbledon. Okay, no biggie. Then next year we had Haas winning Halle and losing in the opening round of Wimbledon. A bit weird but okay. Four years later we have Mayer winning the Halle Open and he too lost in the first round of Wimbledon.
It happened to Coric in 2018 and Humbert in 2021. Last year it was Hubert Hurkacz who won the Halle Open and guess what? Yup, he lost in the first round despite being a very solid player on grass generally. Well, this year it's Bublik's turn. He won the event by beating Andrey Rublev in the final and now we have to wait and see whether he breaks the Halle curse.
The oddity was posted online by Bastien Fachan who also run a poll in the comments with 56 % of fans agreeing that Bublik will break the curse. We'll need to have about a week to find out but if he doesn't it will certainly blow the minds of many fans. Streaks like this happened before but this is a bit more than just another streak. This one is a bit bizarre.
