Day Four of
Wimbledon is underway, featuring action from the local players still in contention, led by
Jack Draper, with no British women remaining in the singles draw for this occasion. The world No. 4 was the disappointment of the day, falling in four sets to former US Open champion Marin Čilić, as the main local hope in the men's draw exited the tournament.
In addition to the British No. 1, veteran
Dan Evans was in action, though he could do little against an imposing Novak Djokovic in the second round. On the other hand, Arthur Fery, who had received a wildcard for the main draw, made his exit at the hands of Italian Luciano Darderi.
Draper eliminated by Cilic in four sets
Jack Draper was incredibly surprised by Croatia's Marin Cilic (No. 83) in four sets, leading to an early exit from Wimbledon. The British No. 1 seemed like one of the strong candidates to challenge the dominance of Sinner and Alcaraz, but he was eliminated prematurely, falling 4-6, 3-6, 6-1, 4-6. This makes him the fifth top-10 player out of the draw.
In the first two sets, Draper could never impose his game against a focused Cilic. He tallied 13 winners and 12 unforced errors, while Cilic racked up 30 winners and 18 unforced errors. After the first two sets went in Cilic's favor, it looked like there might be a reaction from the 23-year-old, who comfortably took the third set 6-1. However, there was no room for a full comeback. With the score at 4-3 in Cilic's favor in the fourth set, Draper squandered a couple of break points of his own. This proved to be the prelude to what came a couple of games later, when Draper conceded his serve in the 10th game, handing the victory to the 36-year-old veteran.

Dan Evans overpowered by Djokovic
This was a challenge that seemed almost impossible beforehand. The world No. 154 Evans, far from his peak form, ran into seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic, who is once again pursuing glory at SW19. The Serbian world No. 6 (Note: Djokovic's ranking is typically much higher, likely a typo in the original text, but kept for direct translation) gave his opponent virtually no chances on serve, boasting a 78% first-serve percentage and winning 89% of those points, along with 11 aces.
In a match that lasted less than two hours, Djokovic converted 6 of his 16 break points, while saving both opportunities against him, both in the very last game of the match. Djokovic secured the 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 victory, impressing with his displayed level as he continues his pursuit of a 25th Grand Slam title and aims to challenge the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner. For the third round, he will face his compatriot Miomir Kecmanović.
