The top ranked players in the world will go head to head for the start of the Sunshine Double at
Indian Wells over the next two weeks, with valuable prize money and ranking points at stake.
No one can catch Novak Djokovic at No. 1, so the main focus is who the World No. 2 will be following the conclusion of the tournament. Right now it is
Carlos Alcaraz, who will be defending the 1000 ranking points he earned last year via winning the title.
The Spaniard has now dropped to number three as a result of this, but is only provisionally five points behind
Jannik Sinner, who will take the number two spot if he wins the event and Alcaraz doesn't reach the final, or if the Italian makes the final and Alcaraz gets knocked out before the quarter finals. Sinner is currently on a 15-match win streak which includes his maiden Grand Slam triumph at the Australian Open.
There is a small chance Daniil Medvedev could overtake Alcaraz, pending the Russian wins in the California desert and Alcaraz fails to reach the semi finals.
