The draw
has been confirmed for the WTA 1000
Indian Wells which is due to take place
between 6-17 March, 2024 and so have the projected Quarter-Finals.
Iga Swiatek
is among those involved and will face off against
Ons Jabeur potentially in the
Quarter-Finals. Others include
Coco Gauff – Qinwen Zheng and
Aryna Sabalenka – Jessica
Pegula. The
main absence will be the world No. 11 Karolina Muchova, along with the world
No. 20 Barbora Krejcikova, due to an injury.
The
tournament will feature a tricky main draw, as some of the favorites could
potentially face tough opponents from the early rounds. For instance, Swiatek
awaits a possible second-round match against Danielle Collins, who faces a
qualifier, and in the third round, she could play against the recent WTA 500
San Diego champion, Katie Boulter, or the young Linda Nosklova, who eliminated
her at the Australian Open.
In
Swiatek's quarter of the draw, there's also Ons Jabeur, who might face Mirra
Andreeva in her opener, the same player who defeated her convincingly at the
Aussie Open (6-0, 6-2). Also in the bottom half are
Elena Rybakina and Marketa
Vondrousova, who will encounter several qualifiers, but Paula Badosa and
Beatriz Haddad Maia pose potential challenges.
The second
part of the main draw could witness a clash of young stars in the quarterfinals
between Coco Gauff and Qinwen Zheng, although it remains to be seen if players
like Naomi Osaka or Daria Kasatkina can avoid such matchups.
In the
lower section of the draw, favorites Aryna Sabalenka and
Jessica Pegula may set
the stage for a potential semifinal face-off. Nevertheless, it won't be an easy
path with competitors like Maria Sakkari, Elina Svitolina, and Leylah Fernandez
in the same draw.
Here's the
projected quarterfinal matchups based on the current rankings of the players:
