First 🔝 10 win at #RolandGarros for @fabiofogna 🇮🇹 The world No.52 brings Auger-Aliassime's campaign to an end 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
Tennis star Felix Auger-Aliassime suffered an opening round loss to Fabio Fognini at the 2023 Roland Garros tournament, and it appears there might be some injury issues hindering the Canadian.
Following his straight sets loss, Auger-Aliassime revealed he fell ill the night before and was unable to sleep.
"I got a bit sick last night, didn't really sleep," said the World No.10. "Yeah, sick all night. That's just a reality. I mean, I woke up this morning trying, I mean, it's like I've been struggling with a few things, and it's like, can you believe it, I get sick the day before my match?
"I tried to warm up. I tried to see the doctor, see what I could take but after one set, you know, just cramping and can't move anymore. So yeah, I don't know.
"I wasn't sure whether I should keep going or give myself a shot or if I should just stop. It was a difficult time, but it's okay. I just need to get healthy again."
Furthermore, Auger-Aliassime has been dealing with some shoulder issues, and although he did not blame it for his loss, he did admit it was not 100%.
"It's not great," he added when asked about the shoulder. "It's very average as well. I've been playing with painkillers and trying to manage, but it needs to get better for sure."
