Although she does not get as much recognition as other highly-ranked players, World No.3 Jessica Pegula seems content with being overlooked when it comes to favorites to win a tournament.
The American eased past compatriot Danielle Collins in her opening round Roland Garros match, and looks to continue her impressive streak of reaching the quarterfinals in four of her last five Grand Slam events.
Despite her consistent performance, Pegula tends to be overlooked as the likes of Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka and Elene Rybakina are always considered potential winners in any tournament. However, the American appears unbothered and is content with being left out of the spotlight.
“I don't really care either way,” said Pegula after her win over Collins. "I think I'm good with being under the radar; I'm good with not being under the radar. I mean, whatever. It doesn't really matter. If that's what it is this tournament, then that's fine. If that's how it's going to be, I don't have a problem with that.
“I think it's good either way. If one tournament I go in and I'm not, that means I'm playing well. So I think either way I'm fine with it.”
Pegula will face Italian Camila Giorgi in the second round.
