Andrey
Rublev praised
Carlos Alcaraz for the energy he brings on the court and stated
that the young Spaniard's goal should be to continue adding Grand Slam
trophies. The Russian spends a significant part of the year with Alcaraz,
considering their similar schedules and the fact that they enter as seeded
players in all the tournaments they participate in.
Rublev
ended the year as world No. 5 and recently played his first match against
Alcaraz on the Tour in the ATP Finals, which ended in favor of the 2-times
Grand Slam champion with a score of 7-5, 6-2.
"Would be interesting to see what happens when he faces some difficult situations"
Alcaraz had
an outstanding year, securing six titles, including his second Grand Slam by
defeating Novak Djokovic in an incredible final with a score of 1-6, 7-6, 6-1,
3-6, 6-4. He achieved a record of 65-12 (84%) and finished the year as world
No. 2 behind Djokovic. He also reached two more finals at the Rio Open against
Cam Norrie and the Cincinnati Open against Djokovic.
Rublev
noted the importance of how the Spanish player maintains his level if he faces
challenging moments in his personal life off the court: "Alcaraz is young. Off
the pitch, everything is planned and done for him. It would be interesting to
see what happens when he faces some difficult situations in his life, how he
handles them, because it takes time and experience to resolve them, to
understand them," he said.
“For example, if you have problems with your agent?
When you stop working together, the contracts, who gets what, they will try to
squeeze everything out of you. Those moments influence you; you start to think
not only about tennis,” 25-years-old Russian tennis player added.
According
to Rublev, Alcaraz has already achieved the goals that all tennis players
aspire to, and now he must work to extend his Grand Slam titles: 'Everything is
planned for him off the court because he is an incredibly good player. He made
it big; he was number 1; he won Slams. He has already achieved what players
dream of. Now he needs to achieve more, win more Slams,” Rublev claimed.
