Iga Swiatek
expressed her enthusiasm for teaming up with
Hubert Hurkacz at the 2024 Paris
Olympics after their victory in mixed doubles at the World Tennis League over
the Russian pair of Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev (6-2). The Polish duo is
considered one of the favorites for the gold medal, as both are currently in
the top-10, with Swiatek as the world No. 1 and Hurkacz at world No. 9.
The 4-times
Grand Slam champion finished the year in great form and reclaimed the top spot
in the WTA Ranking in the final week of competition. Swiatek defeated Jessica
Pegula in the WTA Finals trophy match.
Swiatek's goals for 2024
In 2024,
Swiatek will strive to maintain her world No. 1 ranking, secure more Grand Slam
trophies, and the
Olympic Games are a definite goal for the 22-year-old. As she
mentioned, her first focus is on the upcoming Australian Open, but she looks
forward to planning her participation in Paris with Hurkacz in a couple of
months: 'Yes, for sure [it’s a big goal]. We’re going to have some time to
think about that before the clay season obviously. But for now, I’m just
thinking about Australia and trying not to go too far because the season is
long and a lot of things can happen.'
The
Olympics will take place on clay at Stade Roland Garros, the same venue as the
French Open. Swiatek is currently the most successful player on the WTA Tour on
this surface, with her three Roland Garros titles, equaling the achievements of
players like Serena Williams and Monica Seles.
Swiatek
expressed her joy at playing mixed doubles with Hurkacz and starting to get
into rhythm for their upcoming partnership in Paris: 'But I’m really happy that
I have the opportunity to play some mixed doubles with Hubi and to test it out
and practice a little bit before the Olympics because getting a medal there
would be a dream come true for sure,' Swiatek claimed.
