Madrid Open tournament director Feliciano Lopez caught fire on social media after responding to Andy Murray's tweet demanding a big cake for his birthday.
Andy Murray joked on Twitter that he wants a big cake for his birthday with Madrid Open director Feliciano Lopez responding that he'll try and arrange something. It didn't go well with tennis fans after the fiasco the event proved to be. From the cake controversy which saw Alcaraz get a much bigger cake than Sabalenka which was perceived as an unfair treatment between ATP and WTA players to denying WTA doubles finals participants a chance to speak.
It wasn't a very good look and fans didn't like the way he responded to Murray's tweet either. The Brit first wrote:
"If I don’t get a cake of equal size if not slightly bigger than Alcaraz today im going to be absolutely f**king furious."
Lopez quickly responded that he hopes that he can arrange something:
"Hope I can arrange something."
He has since deleted the response after fans started attacking him for it:
"You can arrange anything as long as it’s for men I guess."
"Feliciano still making light of the situation after running a mess of a tournament which he's been publicly crucified for. It would be best to just take some responsibility and admit you got things wrong."
"This was not a good idea at all. If you're getting hated, making a joke about what you're getting hated for a week later is probably a bad idea."
