Daniil Medvedev is still not embracing the clay which he clearly showed during his match with Karatsev at the Rome Masters.
It was not the easiest matchup for Medvedev who was facing Karatsev, a player who is more than adept on clay. Medvedev ended up losing the match 6-2 6-4 but he did not go out without putting on a show. He was talking all throughout the match looking very disinterested in the match.
While he was sitting in his chair and trailing 6-2 4-3 Medvedev talked to himself saying:
“You like to be in the dirt like a dog? It’s okay, I don’t judge.”
A little while later he yelled at no one in particular:
“Mamma mia Sante Italia, ball abuse" - which made Rublev who was watching the match from the stands burst out laughing.
At the next changeover Medvedev once again talked:
"What did I do wrong last game, guys? What can I do? I play good but no chance on this surface.”
That was not all from Medvedev in that match as he also turned to Supervisor Gerry Armstrong at one point saying:
“Gerry please, disqualify me. I don’t want to be here. It’s dangerous for everybody.”
