Alexander Zverev has claimed a huge win to reach the Shanghai Masters semi-finals after defeating Roger Federer 6-3, 6-7 (7-9), 6-3.
Zverev went through a tougher end to the match than the scoreline would have suggested. He cruised to the first set, but had issues closing it out in the second.
Federer saved five match points in the second site of which 2 match points in the tiebreak. The Swiss legend finally won the tiebreak with 7-9 and the initiative as a result could have been with him.
Despite that disappointing tiebreak Zverev got an early break and claimed the victory with his first matchpoint at 5-3.
Next up will be Dominic Thiem or Matteo Berrettini and it is a huge chance for either player to claim an ATP Masters 1000 title with both Federer and
Novak Djokovic (lost from Tsitsipas) now out.
