The top names in the
Hamburg European Open have opened their accounts in superb fashion with
Lorenzo Musetti,
Alexander Zverev and
Arthur FIls all through.
Musetti who is reigning champion in Hamburg cruised past Swedish ace Elias Ymer 6-4, 6-1. He won 76% of his first-serve points and broke Ymer's serve on five occasions en route to victory in an hour and 16 minutes.
"It took a little bit to get the momentum going. It was not easy because the opponent was playing well, pretty aggressive from the beginning," Musetti said.
"In the end I think I found the right balance, the right rhythm. I have good memories from last year and I am really feeling good here."
While Alexander Zverev despite allegations being his main talking point is still having success on the tennis court.
He saw off Alex Molcan 6-0, 6-3 to seal his 50th tour-level win against left handed players. He did not face a break point en route to reaching the second round and will now face Maximilian Marterer, his compatriot.
Zverev is a two-time semi-finalist in Hamburg and will aim to finally seal the title this week.
Arthur Fils also who had a four match losing streak sealed victory over Daniel Elahi Galan 7-5, 7-5 on his Hamburg debut. While
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina saw off Pedro Cachin 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 in an impressive day for the big names.
