"The allegations raised against Alexander Zverev are serious and we have a responsibility to address them..."
Alexander Zverev has released a statement after the ATP's decision to open an independent investigation into domestic abuse allegations relating to his ex-girlfriend Olya Sharypova at the Shanghai Masters in 2019.
Zverev continues to vehemetly deny the allegations and said as much in his statement as well as offering his support into the investigation that the ATP are partaking in.
These allegations state that the German grabbed her by the throat and forced her against the bathroom wall before punching at her and telling her he hoped she attempted suicide.
“I have always been in full support of the creation of an ATP domestic violence policy,” Zverev said on Monday.
“Moreover, I welcome the ATP investigation into the matter and have been asking the ATP to initiate an independent investigation for months.
“As stated before, I categorically and unequivocally deny any of these allegations.”
