Zverev will leave the top 20 on Monday.
Alexander Zverev will drop out of the top 20 after six years following his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz at the Madrid Open.
Since the beginning of May 2017, Zverev had not dropped out of the top 20, and only three weeks later, he entered the top 10, where he remained until the end of 2022. The German had to end his season after the French Open, where he was injured in the semifinals against Rafael Nadal, during a tie-break in the second set of an incredible match 'Sascha'.
Zverev returned at the 2023 Australian Open but was defeated in the second round by American Michael Mmoh. Although he reached the final of the Dubai Open, where he was defeated by Andrey Rublev, the German has struggled to achieve good results since returning from injury.
The clay season has always brought good results, so he has to defend a large number of points in the coming weeks. His defeat against Alcaraz in the round of 16 does not allow him to defend the final achieved last year, where he lost to the 19-year-old young player.
The former world No. 2's next challenge will be at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia, where he will again defend many points, as he was defeated in the 2022 semifinals against Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Zverev will leave the top 20 on Monday.
