Alexander Zverev is back to training but won't return unless he feels 100 % ready to compete and win matches against the best.
That is according to his brother Mischa Zverev who provided an update on his health in an interview with Eurosport Germany. Zverev was scheduled to return after the US Open but bone oedema delayed those issues ruling him out of the season.
He started to practice and play tennis but could not handle the sharp pain. Now he's back in practice again:
Sascha doesn’t just want to play tournaments when he’s healthy, but [he will] only [return] when he’s also fit to play. He’s doing much better, he’ll be able to start [playing] properly again soon.”
Its good news for Zverev fans as oedemas can be really tough to handle and it's an injury that can prolong your recovery time by a lot. The inspiration to not rush comes from Djokovic as Zverev explained:
“I think that’s incredibly strong. Novak comes back, wins two tournaments – and that’s it. Obviously he wasn’t injured and he’s only had one break, but he comes on with a lot of confidence and plays his thing down. I’m sure he’ll get even better. It’s very impressive, especially at 35 years old.”
