Simona Halep heads into this year’s Australian Open in pretty good form but a loss to Aryna Sabalenka in the Quarter-Finals of the Adelaide International 6-4 6-2 threw that potentially wide open.

Halep admitted that Sabalenka was ‘too strong’ for her in Adelaide; which meant she couldn’t do much in return; but barring that she is feeling good ahead of a tournament which the Romanian has never won; but harbours memories when she reached the final two years ago which began the rise for her.

“I feel good in my tennis even if I don’t have many matches. I did my best in Adelaide, but I couldn’t win that match because Sabalenka was literally too strong,” said Halep who will take on Jennifer Brady in her first match.

“But coming here, having extra days for practice and to get used to the court and atmosphere, it’s a positive. I feel good. I’m ready actually to start.”
