Mirra Andreeva has sent down another statement to continue her 2025 season. The 17-year-old prodigy who makes strides season after season is into her first Quarter-Final of the year as she saw off Linda Noskova at the 2025 Brisbane International.
A tough player to beat, Andreeva secured a 6-3, 6-0 win in style. Albeit it took her longer in the end to register the bagel than it did to win a narrow opener as she sealed a break at 4-2 in the opening set in what was a pretty one sided opening foray on either wing with minimal break opportunities and Andreeva taking the only break point of the set.
It was a bagel but was back and forth between the pair as every break sealed by Andreeva was hard fought and not simple. She also nearly gave her serve away in the final game of the match as she had trouble serving it out. But she got over the line and that is all that matters. A first time winner on the WTA Tour in 2024 and a Grand Slam semi-finalist, it seems the only way is up again fro Andreeva. Next up is either the resurgent Ons Jabeur or Elina Avanesyan, both of whom are currently on court.
Elsewhere Kimberly Birrell showed it wasn't just a flash in the pan against Emma Navarro as she took down Anastasia Potapova 7-6, 6-2 Ashlyn Krueger who last round saw off Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets also continued her run. She saw off Suzan Lamens.
While Polina Kudermetova, sister of Veronika saw off Daria Kasatkina who has ran out of road after an epic after Peyton Stearns yesterday turned into yet another three setter today. Anhelina Kalinina saw off Yue Yuan.
In that aforementioned tie, Ons Jabeur has eased into a 4-1 lead in the final set against Elina Avanesyan continuing to show her superb form thus far in the 2025 season. Victoria Azarenka also is locked in at 3-3 in the opening set against Marie Bouzkova. So very much the tournament of shocks but at the same time going to script for some of the big names including Andreeva.
Well... that was GOOD from Mirra Andreeva.
