"Breaking racquets, foul-mouthed, this renegade approach": Roddick's approach to tennis attracted future wife Brooklyn Decker

Andy Roddick's wife, Brooklyn Decker, shared her impressions of the American tennis player when she first saw him on the court.
The American model and actress, known for her appearances in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, got engaged to the former world No. 1 in 2007 and they got married in 2009.
Decker, 36 years old, mentioned in an interview with GQ Sports that she found it "funny" to see Roddick breaking racquets and expressing frustration during his matches:
“Tennis to me felt like such an off-limits, rich person sport. And so to see him breaking racquets, foul-mouthed, this renegade approach he would take sometimes—I always found it really funny, cause it seemed to shake up the rigid world that tennis was. I thought he was very sexy when I saw him play,” Brooklyn Decker said.
The former US Open champion playfully joined his wife's words:
“She used to like it when I yelled at umpires,” Roddick joked.
Decker also reflected on the end of Roddick's tennis career and the effects it had on the former world No. 1:
"He was not as happy playing. He became significantly less patient with his injuries. He was irritable. And I naively thought, I married this man and now he’s changing. What’s going on here?” He was still young, but often he was acting like an old man. What happened to the guy who’d snapped off that sprig of holly? Where was that Andy?" Brooklyn Decker said.
“And when he retired, it was like a light switched on in him. And he became the person who I knew and fell in love with. And after some time I realized, Oh, this is a man who was suffering and really grappling with the end of his career. And the end of that identity,” she added.
According to Roddick, he proposed to his current wife in their hotel room during the 2007 Indian Wells tournament, a moment he considers vital for the continuation of their relationship:
"I went from, ‘I don’t think I’m gonna get in a serious relationship forever,’ and then we were engaged in, like, six months. And then we really got to know each other. If we hadn’t actually made that commitment, I don’t know that we get through that," Roddick added.

- Having spent weeks and weeks through the years on tour, I can say with confidence that Conchita was (is) one of the very few who realize the surprising level of maturity (and sometimes lack of) which Mirra seems to have developed in such a demanding adult world of Pro-Tennis. While at the same time reminding herself (Conchita, that is) that Mirra is still young and developing mentally and physically. The general public may forget at times, or not at all realize, these modern era young athletes do not have a 'normal' Youth. It's a major sacrifice, among countless sacrifices, these athletes must make.
