Caroline Wozniacki's outfit at the US Open has received criticism from some tennis fans on social media, while others defended the player's choice to wear what she wants.
Former world No. 1 Wozniacki returned to professional tennis earlier this month after three and a half years away. The 33-year-old initially retired in early 2020 before going on to have two children with NBA star husband David Lee.
However, in June of this year, Wozniacki announced her comeback and returned to the WTA Tour before entering the US Open as a wild card. At the Slam, she had a more successful run than some were expecting, defeating eleventh seed Petra Kvitova on the way to the Round of 16, where she was ultimately beaten by Coco Gauff.
However, rather than focussing on Wozniacki's strong comeback, some fans have taken issue with her outfit, with several saying it looked as though it were designed for wrestling.
"Has she been Olympic wrestling and had some spare outfits?," wrote one social media user.
"I don’t like it, could have been cute with a skirt or shorts over. Looks like a wrestling outfit…" added another.
Meanwhile, others complained that the outfit was 'too provocative.'
"She looks great but my goodness I was not expecting that. It's not how I remember her. Not a big deal but too provocative for the occasion IMO," commented one.
However, some fans have defended the look.
"How the hell is this provocative? The skirts are just as short. Why? Because it wasn't a skirt so that's somehow an issue? She's full covered and the length is literally the same as the skirts," wrote one.
"#wozniacki killing this match! All the comments about her outfit - killing that that too! She had her 2nd baby less than a year ago!! Wear it proud-ignore the haters!" added another.
