HE’S BACK! 3x Grand Slam Champion, @stanwawrinka will return as part of the @Desert Smash 20th Anniversary! 🙌🏽🏆🏆🏆
Nick Kyrgios will make a return to tennis as he was confirmed in the line-up for the Desert Smash exhibition taking place just a few miles away from Indian Wells.
Kyrgios has not played an ATP Tour event since June, suffering from injuries and a loss of enjoyment from the sport. However, his name was listed in the charity event alongside Stan Wawrinka and Victoria Azarenka.
The Desert Smash takes place over two days on 4 and 5 March and will feature a pickleball event as well as tennis. Kyrgios had planned to make his return at the Australian Open after over six months away, but another setback caused him to miss not only the first major of the year but also rule him out of the first half of 2024.
Still, it will be encouraging for fans to see the Australian in action, as Kyrgios hopes to put his fitness hell behind him. The 28-year-old will be part of the media team for ESPN covering Indian Wells. He was also a member of the punditry and commentary team for Eurosport in Melbourne.
The 20th Annual Desert Smash will feature pros such as Casper Ruud, Donna Vekic and Alycia Parks, with actress Charlize Theron acting as host for the event.
