A video has been circulating online of
Bernard Tomic being brutally attacked and beaten at Surfer's Paradise.
Australian tennis player Tomic was outside a Gold Coast tattoo parlor when he was attacked by two men. In the 16-second clip, the 30-year-old can be seen covering his face with his hands as he tries to protect himself against a series of kicks and blows from the attackers, whose identities remain unknown.
One of them, dressed in a grey tracksuit, can also be heard telling Tomic to 'get up ya dog' before trying to pull the former World No. 17 to his feet.
Date of attack is unclear
However, the date of the attack is unclear, as Tomic was up until yesterday, Thursday, September 7, participating at an ATP Challenger Event in Istanbul, Turkey.
He had defeated Skander Mansouri in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday, September 5, before being ousted in the second round by Nick Hardt.
Tomic is currently trying to revive his career after plummeting to No. 825 in the ATP Ranking in 2022. He has climbed back up to No. 292 by competing at Challenger Events.
Earlier this year, Tomic faced disappointment when he did not receive a wild card for his home Slam, the Australian Open. This was the first time that he had missed the major since 2008. However, he said that he was determined to earn his place there in the future.
"I'm not expecting any favours," he said at the time, "I'm going to prove my point and earn my way. I'm at a place in my life where I don't complain anymore.
"I'm focused and I've been training hard. I'll let my tennis do the talking. Last quarter of 2022 I won three tournaments and won four finals. This year is my year. If no one is going to help support me, I'll get back to [the] top 100 on my own," he continued.
