Roger
Federer made a surprise appearance on stage and was moved to tears at Andrea
Bocelli's concert.
The
20-times Grand Slam champion took center stage yesterday at a concert by Andrea
Bocelli in Zurich after the Italian tenor invited Federer to join him on stage
for a couple of minutes. Attendees at the Hallenstadion concert were pleasantly
surprised when Bocelli welcomed Federer during the recital in the Swiss
capital.
The
audience's surprise didn't end there; after the tenor performed the piece
'Nessun Dorma,' Federer broke into tears. The two then left the stage together,
bringing an end to the memorable night.
“Roger
Federer moved to tears by Andrea Bocelli”
This isn't
the first time Federer has made a surprise appearance on stages in his home
country. He has previously done so at concerts featuring artists like Elton
John and, more recently, during Coldplay's tour in Switzerland. On that
occasion, he was invited by Chris Martin, the band's lead vocalist, to join the
concert:
"It
was I got the invitation from Chris Martin from Coldplay. He said, 'Don't you
want to come up on stage tomorrow?' I was in Zurich at the time I just came
back from an Elton John concert you know stuff you just do when you don't have
much to do anymore."
"I
looked at my daughter and I told her, 'Do you think I should be going on stage
to do this?' And she was half-asleep, but told me, 'Of course, papa, you only
live once,'" the Swiss added.
"Of
course, I enjoyed it after. But, you know, I don't need sometimes those anxiety
moments anymore. I'm just happy and quite content to be away from it all, but I
finished on top, you know, this is my music career. I ended it right there, I
dropped the mic," Federer concluded.
