Wimbledon is one of the major Grand Slam events in
tennis and an iconic part of the sport. It’s well underway in 2025 and showing
just why so many people love to watch it. As the rounds go on, we’re starting
to see a few top players emerge as likely winners.
But who are they, and how might their careers fare
over the rest of the year?
Carlos
Alcaraz
Alcaraz won Wimbledon in 2024 and seems set to make a
serious attempt at defending his crown in 2025. As the latest
sports betting odds show, he is favoured
by many to do this and leads the pack of men who could taste success in London
this year.
He’s been in pretty impressive form so far in his
opening games and shown good mental resilience to navigate some tricky moments.
His most recent clash was against Andrey Rublev and he clinched a 3-1 win –
despite losing the opening set.
But how might the Spaniard’s career fare over the rest
of 2025? After winning in 2024, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him playing in
the China Open and he will be in the groove to do well again after warming up
at Wimbledon.
The US Open at the end of August also warrants a
mention and he also remains a threat there. However, last year’s event saw him
suffer a shock second round defeat and he will be keen to avoid this again. If
he can come into it fit and use his power to maximum effect on hard courts,
then he should do well in 2025.
Jannik
Sinner
Sinner’s dominant 2024 showed just what a
fantastic young talent he is. This is in evidence again at Wimbledon 2025 and
he looks set to make a serious push to take the crown from Alcaraz.
The Italian’s hot form looks likely to set him up for
a strong rest of the year. You would imagine that this all starts with a return
to the Cincinnati Open to defend the title he won in 2024. He looked well
suited to the courts there last time out and is playing well enough in 2025 to
excel once more.
Sinner won the US Open in 2024 and this means another
title win at Flushing Meadows could be on the cards. As with all top players,
Davis Cup tennis is ever-present and you would expect Sinner to be involved
with this in the rest of 2025.
Aryna
Sabalenka
Wimbledon 2025 has seen lots of shock
results and plenty of seeds falling. Despite this, Sabalenka has stood firm and
looked impressive so far. This makes her a likely winner on the women’s side of
the game and someone who’s looking in great form currently.
Her career for the rest of the year should benefit
from the confidence that a deep run at Wimbledon will bring. You would tip her
to do well in the US Open, and her title win at this event in 2024 shows that
she likes playing in this competition. The harder courts at Flushing Meadows
certainly seem well suited to her power game.
Look out for her at the WTA Finals in Riyadh come the
end of the year. This was an event she reached the semi-finals in during 2024
and it’s likely that she’ll be targeting another strong performance here.
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
The
Russian-born player has been a top pro on the WTA tour for many years and is
going strong still in 2025. Another player with masses of power and experience,
she’s through to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon after beating British player
Sonay Kartal in the round of 16.
But
where could her career head after Wimbledon this year? As with the other
players on our list, a trip to the US Open is the most obvious thing to focus
on. An early exit in 2024 was not ideal but was against the force that is Iga
Świątek.
An
injury-free and confidence-boosting Wimbledon 2025 combined with a kinder draw
could see Pavlyuchenkova do better in Flushing Meadows this time around.
It
wouldn’t be a surprise to see her turn up at the Cincinnati Open after
Wimbledon. She reached the quarters at this event in 2024 and will surely see
it as an ideal way to get ready for the hard-court action at the US Open.
What could the rest of 2025 hold for
likely Wimbledon winners?
Wimbledon
2025 is taking place right now and is serving up a feast of top-class tennis
action to savour. Although predicting who will win is tough, the players listed
above seem in with the best shout. Once the courts are covered up in London,
these players look set for a busy time during the rest of the year.
