Denmark’s tennis star
Holger Rune
has revealed the reason behind the involvement of the former world number one Boris
Becker in his coaching team.
The 20-year-old has recently taken
part in the Stockholm Open where, during the practice sessions, Boris was sitting
in the arena.
When asked about it, Rune explained
the reason behind the presence of the six-time Grand Slam winner by stating: “It
was a really good week of training. I have known Boris for a long time. He
follows tennis a lot in general and he has written to me a few times.
“Also when I was a little younger,
he gave me some tips and tricks. There he showed that he supports me. You can
feel it. That’s really a big difference.
“He can feel what I’m feeling. He
can’t just say what he thinks I’m feeling, but he can feel it because he’s been
in those situations himself. So it’s a different sensation and feeling. It is
definitely a good thing to have someone who has tried it himself.”
That, however, did not help Rune in
overturning his poor form as he lost the opening round encounter to Serbia’s Miomir
Kecmanovic in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 6-2.
It
was Rune’s consecutive defeat in an ATP event as he also lost the round of 64
tie at the Shanghai Masters to America’s Brandon Nakashima with a score of 6-0,
6-2.
