Andreescu donates signed racket with proceeds going to COVID-19 Response Fund

World No.6 Bianca Andreescu is doing her part in raising awareness about the ongoing coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping the globe.

The Canadian's last match came at the 2019 WTA Finals in Shenzhen, where she retired against Karolina Pliskova. Since then Andreescu has been plagued by a nagging injury, which forced her to withdraw from numerous tournaments. These include the 2020 Australian Open, the Fed Cup Qualifiers and the BNP Paribas Open.

However, the WTA has temporarily suspended it's season due the coronavirus outbreak, perhaps leaving Andreescu with more time to recuperate. The reigning US Open champion has not remained passive however, as she took to social media to make an announcement.

Andreescu stated that she had donated one of her signed rackets to Athletes for COVID-19 Relief, a non-profit organization that assists those directly affected by the coronavirus outbreak. With a donation of at least $25, participants would be entered to win their favorite player's signed memorabilia.

Andreescu is not the only WTA athlete engaged in philanthropy during this trying period. American teenager Coco Gauff initiated a fundraiser on her birthday to help fight coronavirus. Additionally, China's Qiang Wang made a sizable donation to hospitals in Wuhan, which is the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak.
