Returning to action after becoming a mother,
Angelique Kerber will face all the fanfare of a return to the Australian Open after her spot in the Entry List was confirmed through a Protected Ranking.
But she has her sights set on further into 2024 with a dream team with
Alexander Zverev for Germany which will first be in action at the United Cup with an effort to form for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Ahead of her return, Kerber is not yet expecting to be firing on all cylinders, but admits that the difficulty that it will likely take for her to get back to that place is what is firing her up.
“I’ve done everything, I feel good, we’re right on schedule. But it’s too early to make a prediction. In plain language: I have a really cold start in Australia and the most difficult one I’ve had so far. But that’s exactly what motivates me.”
Speaking about Zverev, the plan is to discuss playing together at the Olympic Games during 2024 with potential big name duos across the Mixed Doubles and also Carlos Alcaraz/Rafael Nadal potentially in the Men's Doubles. It will be a real bonus to the Roland Garros clay court season which Kerber hopes to play with Zverev.
“When we meet in Australia, we will definitely talk about it,” continued Kerber. “It would make me very happy. The Olympics in Paris are the highlight and playing for Germany is always an honour.”
