After Brisbane, many wouldn't have been surprised if like Kerber and Tomljanovic off the back of the United Cup, Elena Rybakina would've withdrawn from the Adelaide International. Being one of the top seeds and last year's finalist, she will likely play over the first few days of the Australian Open. But she will still be involved this week.
Rybakina sealed the Brisbane International with victory over Aryna Sabalenka in the final and it is a more diminished field this week with Jessica Pegula her main challenger. She will play in the Night Session against Cristina Bucsa. Flanked by Lorenzo Musetti and Jordan Thompson formerly in the opening game.
Jessica Pegula will open up proceedings on Centre Court taking on Bernarda Pera. While Rybakina has been utterly rampant to start the year, it has not been a consistent start for the most consistent player on the WTA Tour with a poor showing at the United Cup including a loss to Katie Boulter. But instead of doing it for her country, she is back to just herself this week.
Also on the schedule on Centre Court is Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova v Katerina Siniakova as well as Tommy Paul facing Alex Bolt. That trio of ties flanks the Day Session.
Off on the other courts is where some of the top games could happen including Matteo Arnaldi v Nicolas Jarry, Caroline Garcia v Jelena Ostapenko and Daria Kasatkina v Anna Kalinskaya. With Quarter-Final spots the name of the game, who comes out on top tonight?
