Andrey Rublev
and
Dominic Thiem expressed their gratitude for the initiative that will track
the carbon footprint of tennis players.
ATP’s new
app Carbon Tracke aims to usher in a new era of sustainability in the world of
tennis. Considering the extensive travel undertaken by tennis players
throughout the year, the application seeks to track the carbon footprint left
by each player and inspire them to make more eco-friendly journeys.
ATP
partnered with Infosys to create the application, which features a
comprehensive dashboard that allows players to view their carbon emissions over
multiple seasons. It aims to assist players in analyzing their travel options
and promoting tennis sustainability. The ATP also has plans to expand the
initiative to other sports in the future.
Athletes
will also have access to resources and questionnaires to help them adopt
sustainable and environmentally responsible practices.
."Tennis
is a global sport. Where we compete for titles all year round. Which means
flights all season long, all over the world. It’s part of what we do. But we're
also part of a planet-conscious sport and we have a role to play here,"
they wrote.
"With
ATP’s brand new Carbon Tracker app, we're tracking our miles. We’re tracking
our impact, and we’re supporting climate projects around the world. This is
just the first leg towards more sustainable travel on tour and protecting all
the amazing places we play."
Association
of Tennis Professionals announced in a video the launch of the application.
Several tennis stars, including Dominic Thiem, Andrey Rublev,
Cameron Norrie,
and
Emil Ruusuvuori, have expressed their commitment to track and offset 100%
of their emissions in 2023.
"Great
project, great job @atptour," Thiem wrote on his Instagram story.
"Carbon
tracker @infosys @atptour," Rublev shared on Instagram too.
