Tennis bosses are set to meet and discuss the possibility of
reducing the break between the change of serve in the first set in the doubles
category.
In the recent past, US broadcaster ESPN wrote a letter to
ATP, explaining in detail about the reason behind not preferring to telecast
the doubles event anymore.
According to the latest report, the authorities dealing with
the men’s tennis are now set to look into detail how to fasten the doubles matches.
As per the report, the players will not be allowed to have a
90-second break during the first set, instead, they will only have 15 seconds
between the end of the games. The trial will be used in the Madrid Masters which
will begin on April 22. However, the players will be given their due share of a break from the second set onwards.
The report further stated that while the move is unlikely to
impress the players, the idea will be sold telling them they must approve this
or face the risk of the doubles category becoming ‘collateral damage’ in the future
developments of the sport.
The news also featured details about the future of tennis emerging
from two different proposals on the table. One includes the four Grand Slams whereas
the other featured ATP potentially joining hands with the Saud Arabia’s PIF who
have time and again shown interest in investing in the sport.
