Miami Open title win elicited praise from several in the tennis community, including former US Davis Cup captain
Patrick McEnroe.
Sinner overpowered Grigor Dimitrov in Sunday's final, securing a 6-3 6-1 victory to win his third title of the season. The 22-year old now sits at a career-high ranking of World No.2, and accomplished another milestone by becoming the first Italian to win multiple ATP Masters 1000 titles, in addition to extending his lead as the Italian with the most tour-level trophies in the Open Era with 13 titles to his name.
McEnroe believes Sinner is untouchable right now
Following his victory, Sinner took to social media to celebrate his historic win. The reigning Australian Open champion shared a photo of himself holding the trophy, saying the win in Florida felt "special".
"It's the good time. Thank you Miami ! Winning here is special. Let's go! #13," Sinner captioned his Instagram post.
Patrick McEnroe took to Twitter to praise Sinner's performance, calling him the current "best player" in the world.
"In the last 6 months….@janniksin is the best player on the planet……and it’s not close," wrote McEnroe.
Several prominent members of the tennis community were also quick to extend their congratulations, including budding rival
Carlos Alcaraz and compatriot Fabio Fognini.
